8:41 am - Announcement!

Most of the people on this group are my friends either on lj, Facebook or the real world and so have been bombarded by this information already. But I thought I'd share my excitement with everyone else as well.

My first novel, Child of the Hive, will be published on 24th September. It's a science fiction thriller about the people who get caught in the middle of a conflict between two secret organisations.

It's available for pre-order from Amazon.

I've started posting extracts on YouTube. I'll be posting one extract a week from now until the launch date.

I've also created a Facebook event for the launch date and a page for fans of me. Is it conceited that I'm now a fan of myself?

There's going to be a launch party in London on Saturday 26th September. If anyone's interested in coming along, let me know and I'll give you the details (I have to give approximate numbers to the event hosts). There will be a free glass of wine, an opportunity to buy a signed copy of the book at a special discount price, a view readings and a visual blurb if we can get the filming finalised in time.

5:02 pm - Who wants to be ratified?

Societies no longer need to charge membership fees if they don't want to claim grant money. I have this direct from Sam Bailey.

Creative writing group could become a ratified society with the benefits of a Freshers' Fair stand and actually being able to use room bookings, without charging for members.

We would almost certainly need to come up with a constitution and elect a committee, but we can remain a free society and still get ratified.

3:51 am - Joel Average

Hi folks, how are you all doing? I hope I’m not being intrusive here, but I would like to share one of my stories:

On the morning of his seventeenth birthday, Joel Robbins realized, for the first time in his adolescent life, that he was horribly average. His high school report card resembled the lyrics of a Jackson Five song: A, B, C. A, B, C. It wouldn't get him into trouble, but it wouldn't put him on the honor roll either. His grades were…average. Granted, Joel wasn't in lack of a creative mind. The photographs he took impressed his peers, but couldn't earn him a scholarship from the state's art academy. His girlfriend loved the short stories he wrote, yet publishers kept sending him rejection slips: even when it came to the arts, Joel was average.

9:53 am - Write-In the 2nd

EDIT: Nah, this thing ain't happening! Sorry guys. See you all soon!

The second of our write-ins will (hopefully) be taking place tomorrow, Saturday 24rd November, between 12 midday and 12 midnight in W/036!

I say 'hopefully' because if not enough people are able to come, I'm not going to bother showing.

Please could you comment here if you're going to be there, and let me know what time abouts?

current mood: j-j-jazzed

4:31 pm - The invisible write-in that wasn't

Um, if no-one else is coming, can I go home now?

I know I should stick around for the whole thing in case someone turns up later, seeing as I booked it.

But I don't want to.

I'm going to make a LiveJournal post about the next one and ask people to tell me if and when they are coming along.

current mood: sigh

6:13 pm - Freshers Fair

I've put up some posters and I've printed off some little fliers to hand out (well they're more like business cards to be honest) to passers by.

I'm going to do a few more posters for the fair itself later with things like the ticky boxy joke on there in hopes the freshers will be mildly amused/interested.

With any luck people might actually want to join us :P

So far there's just me on the stall with Bunny moving up from the G+S stall at some point and a slight chance of Hannah later. Anyone else who wants to keep me (and Eevee for that matter) company would be most welcome.

current mood: cheerful

Has anyone publicised Writing Group in Daily Info yet?

If not, it'd be a good idea to get it in as soon as possible.

2:42 pm - Hmm, can't edit posts you made on a community, eh?

I've now booked G/002 (we've been in there before, it's our Goodricke room), cos none of the other Vanbrugh rooms were suitable / available. I hope this meets with everyone's approval.

Room bookings haven't confirmed or rejected this yet.

EDIT: we have G/002 every Friday, but on Mondays they've allocated us Derwent Terrace D/TERR. I don't know what or where that is. Anybody? Is it going to work for writing group meetings? I'll cancel the booking and try again if not.

WE'RE IN G/002 TONIGHT! 7:30!

current mood: deflated whirlwind

12:08 pm - Writing group tonight!

Argh! Room bookings have rejected my request for V/139 on the ground that it's only available to History of Art students or staff.

I'll try to book us somewhere else, possibly V/120 if that's allowed, and let you know on here what I've accomplished.

enyay Writing Group's penultimate meeting of the summer, at the House of Pun, is Monday evening at 7pm as usual. There'll be one on Friday too, just to save me having to make another post then.

(If you need directions, comment and I'll give some.)

11:34 am - Freshers Fair

As stated last term, I won't be around to organise Writing Group's presence at Fresher's Fair this year, although I might be able to turn up to help out, but I cannot be relied upon as I might have to be in Norfolk.

Hence, things need to be thought about.

The SU will not give us a stall, so we will have to share with Word Salad, or hijack a stall from someone who doesn't turn up.

We will need:

Posters/a banner tat says who we are VERY CLEARLY!
Information to go on said fliers and posters, including who we are, what we do, times, days and rooms.
People to gather said information and make the fliers and posters
Sign up forms with space for name and email address, as we don't need anything else.
A banner that clearly states that we're a free society.

As we do not have a budget (over the past few years, I've paid for all the gumph from my own pocket, and people have donated cash on the day for photocopying), it might be a good idea for the person/people who volunteer to organise this to have a collection. If everyone gives 50p, for example, then we'll have enough to make a lot of fliers.

So, victims volunteers?

2:35 pm - A Meeting!

It's about time we had another writing group meeting. Is anyone interested?

If so please reply in comments. Ideas about where and when to meet would be most welcome. (I think campus is pretty much locked up, correct me if I'm wrong)

If no one has any better ideas then I suggest My House from 7pm on Friday (with the candlestick :p)

10:52 pm - Important Message!

Over on Facebook, I've been asked by the one writing group regular who doesn't have a livejournal (yes, the one holding a goat), whether there will be some more writing group meetings this summer.

So, a poll!

Are you interested in writing group meetings this summer?

Yes please
No thanks
Yes, but I might not be able to go to many

Where should the meetings take place?

current mood: sleepy
